Motion SoundBoxes are interactive sound devices that make it possible to create and shape music through movement, touch and other forms of physical interaction. They were developed by Thomas Bisitz as artistic and educational tools for making sound, movement and musical expression directly accessible.
The first prototypes emerged from the wish to create instruments that invite people to explore sound intuitively – without needing traditional instrumental technique or musical notation. Over time, different versions of the Motion SoundBoxes have been developed and used in a variety of artistic, educational and social contexts, including but not limited to inclusive settings.
At the core of the Motion SoundBoxes is the idea that musical interaction can begin with a simple gesture: moving a hand, changing distance, touching an object, shifting one’s body, or exploring space together with others. Depending on the version, the devices can react to movement, proximity, pressure, touch or other sensor-based inputs. In this way, they open up playful and experimental ways of making music, composing soundscapes and working together creatively.

Current State
The Motion SoundBoxes currently exist as working prototypes and practice-tested devices. They have been used in workshops, performances, educational projects and collaborative artistic settings. They are especially suitable for situations in which people with different abilities, experiences or backgrounds come together to explore sound and music.
At the moment, the Motion SoundBoxes are not available as a commercial product. However, lending the devices for projects, workshops, artistic experiments or educational contexts is very welcome. I am happy to discuss possible uses and formats.

Outlook
A long-term goal is to make the Motion SoundBoxes easier to build, use and share. This includes ideas such as simplified production, better documentation, a set of educational concepts and possibly an open-source approach. The aim is to make the devices more accessible to artists, educators, musicians, researchers and institutions who are interested in experimental sound work and inclusive forms of musical participation.
Collaborations are very welcome – both in artistic or educational projects and in the technical development of the devices. I am especially interested in working with people who want to explore new contexts, develop new versions, improve the hardware or software, or help bring the Motion SoundBoxes further into the world.
